If your dog just came in the house smelling like the business end of a skunk, you're going to need to work fast. It is possible to get the stench out of your dog's hair but the longer you wait, the harder it will be. Before you start cleaning, be sure to put on a pair of rubber gloves and a shirt that you don't mind throwing away when you're done. Now, here are two easy ways to get de-skunk your dog.

1. Foam It Away

Skunk spray is an oily substance that clings to hair. Once it's on, it can be difficult to get rid of. This simple cleaning solution will reach deep into your dog's hairs to remove the odor.

Supplies You'll Need

  • Bathtub

  • 32 ounces of hydrogen peroxide

  • ½ cup of baking soda

  • 3 teaspoons of liquid soap

  • Bucket of warm water

  • Large plastic mixing bowl or bucket

  • Plastic spoon or paint stirrer

  • Mineral oil

  • Towels

Directions

  1. Pour your hydrogen peroxide into a plastic bowl or bucket.

  2. Add the baking soda and liquid hand soap.

  3. Place your dog in the bathtub.

  4. Apply a small amount of mineral oil around your dog's eyes to keep the cleaning solution out.

  5. Pour small amounts of the solution onto your dog and begin massaging the fur.

  6. Continue cleaning your dog with the solution.

  7. Once the solution is covering your dog's body, allow it to sit for about 5 minutes.

  8. Rinse your dog with the bucket of warm water.

  9. Repeat the process, if necessary.

  10. Dry it off with your clean towels.
